Stimulation of Nipples

Stimulation of nipples is a common human sexual practice, either for itself or as part of other sexual activities. The practice may be performed upon – or by – people of any gender or sexual orientation, but is more commonly performed on women. Breast and nipple stimulation of women are a near-universal aspect of human sexual activity, but stimulation of nipples of males are not as common.

The male or female breast, nipple and areola develop similarly in the fetus and during infancy. At puberty the male's breasts remain rudimentary but the female's develop further, mainly due to the presence of oestrogen and progesterone, and become more sensitive. All breasts have the same number of nerve endings no matter how large they are. Accordingly, smaller breasts are more sensitive while larger breasts can be stimulated more forcefully.

The touching by one person of the breasts and nipples of another is normally an indicator of intimacy, and allowing breasts to be touched is an indication of either trust or, if unwelcome, of submission. The touching of the nipples can be a form of foreplay giving raise to sexual arousal and an erection of the nipples. Breasts, and especially the nipples, are highly erogenous zones, for both men and women, and have a heightened sensitivity, the stimulation of which may result in the production of erotic sensations or sexual excitement. A person may experience a spontaneous erection of the nipples, with all the associated physiological changes, as a result of sexual arousal or as a reaction to cold.

Nipples can be stimulated orally, digitally, manually or by the use of an object. Oral nipple stimulation would involve a sex partner stimulating a person's nipples by licking, sucking, biting or blowing on the partner's nipples. Other ways of stimulating nipples include fondling or rubbing them with the hands or by using a soft object. Some people self-stimulate their nipple.

Stimulation of a woman's nipples promotes the production of oxytocin and prolactin, and can create physiological changes to her genitals. Oxytocin creates maternal feelings in a woman and is known to decrease anxiety, and to increase pair bonding and increase trust.  The release of oxytocin can result in sexual arousal of the person and the erection of the nipples, both of which make the nipples even more sensitive to touch.

Safe sex means taking precautions during sex that can keep you from getting a sexually transmitted infection (STI), or from giving an STI to your partner.

STIs are also referred to as sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs. These diseases include genital herpes, genital warts, HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, and others.

A sexually transmitted illness (STI) is a contagious disease that can be transferred to another person through sexual intercourse or other sexual contact. Many of the organisms that cause STIs live on the penis, vagina, anus, mouth, and the skin of surrounding areas.

Most of the diseases are transferred by direct contact with a sore on the genitals or mouth. However, some organisms can be transferred in body fluids without causing a visible sore. They can be transferred to another person during oral, vaginal, or anal intercourse.

Some STIs can also be transferred by nonsexual contact with infected tissues or fluids, such as infected blood. For example, sharing needles when using IV (in the vein) drugs is a major cause of HIV and hepatitis B transmission. An STI can also be transmitted through contaminated blood transfusions and blood products, through the placenta from the mother to the developing baby, and sometimes through breastfeeding.

The following factors increase your risk of getting an STI:

Not knowing whether a partner has an STI or not
Having a partner with a history of any STI
Having sex without a male or female condom
Using drugs or alcohol in a situation where sex might occur
If your partner is an IV drug user
Having anal intercourse

Drinking alcohol or using drugs increases the likelihood that you will participate in high-risk sex. In addition, some diseases can be transferred through the sharing of used needles or other drug paraphernalia.

Abstinence is an absolute answer to preventing STIs. However, abstinence is not always a practical or desirable option.

Next to abstinence, the least risky approach is to have a mutually monogamous sexual relationship with someone you know is free of any STI. Ideally, before having sex with a new partner, each of you should get screened for STIs, especially HIV and hepatitis B, and share the test results with each another.

Use condoms to avoid contact with semen, vaginal fluids, or blood. Both male and female condoms dramatically reduce the chance you will get or spread an STI. However, condoms must be used properly:

Keep in mind that STIs can still be spread, even if you use a condom, because a condom does not cover surrounding skin areas. But a condom definitely reduces your risk.
Lubricants may help reduce the chance a condom will break. Use only water-based lubricants, because oil-based or petroleum-type lubricants can cause latex to weaken and tear. Polyurethane condoms are less prone to breaking, but cost more than latex condoms. Using condoms with nonoxynol-9 (a spermicide) can help prevent pregnancy, but may increase the chance of HIV transmission because the spermicide can irritate the vaginal walls.
The condom should be in place from the beginning to end of sexual activity and should be used every time you have sex.
Use latex condoms for vaginal, anal, and oral intercourse.

Here are additional safe sex steps:

Be responsible. If you have an STI, like HIV or herpes, advise any prospective sexual partner. Allow him or her to decide what to do. If you mutually agree on engaging in sexual activity, use use latex or polyurethane condoms and other measures to protect the partner.
If pregnant, take precautions. If you have an STI, learn about the risk to the infant before becoming pregnant. Ask your provider how to prevent the developing baby from becoming infected. HIV positive women should not breastfeed their infant.
Know your partner. Before having sex, first establish a committed relationship that allows trust and open communication. You should be able to discuss sexual histories, any previous STIs or IV drug use. You should not feel coerced or forced into having sex.
Stay sober. Alcohol and drugs impair your judgment, communication abilities, and ability to properly use condoms or lubricants.

In summary, safe sex requires prior planning and good communication between partners. Given that, couples can enjoy the pleasures of a sexual relationship while reducing the potential risks involved.

An intimate, personal, or private part is a place on the human body which it is usually customary to keep covered with clothing in public areas, as a matter of decency. The term is a euphemism.

Definitions vary, but in Western cultures they are primarily the parts involved in sexual arousal, procreation, and elimination of excreta and related matter, including:

the buttocks, anus and perineum

for boys and men: the penis and scrotum

for girls and women: the pudendal cleft, vulva and, the breasts

The term intimate parts may be construed to mean only the external body parts that are visible when naked, rather than the body parts more commonly referred to. For example, when naked, a woman's pudendal cleft is predominantly visible rather than the vagina, and a man's scrotum is visible rather than the testes which are contained within.

Female breasts are considered as parts that would be covered in most contexts, but with a degree of tolerance for toplessness varying in different regions and cultures. For example, Fischtein, Herold and Desmarais 2005 found that of a sample of 1,479 Canadians, 72.4% felt that toplessness on city streets should be illegal, but in public parks only 62.1% felt it should be illegal and on public beaches only 48.1% felt that it should be illegal. The results for toplessness on city streets varied by gender, with significantly more women responding that it should be illegal than men; by age, with those aged 40–49 least likely 67.5% to think it should be illegal and those aged 20–29 most likely 79.9%; and by religious commitment, with those attending church at least weekly most likely 85.1% to think it should be illegal and those never attending least likely 57.7%. The differences became less significant for toplessness in public parks and even less so for toplessness on public beaches. The study highlighted the range of attitudes towards public nudity.

In some periods of European history, female shoulders and legs may have been considered intimate parts. More conservative viewpoints in the West in some contexts still find it appropriate that females should cover their shoulders, particularly when entering a church or other sacred space.

In Islamic traditions, the definition of awrah is similar to the definition of intimate parts in Western culture. The extent of cover for the female body depends upon the situation, but may include the hair, shoulders and neck in addition to the aforementioned intimate parts. The entire body except the face and hands should be covered in public or in front of unrelated men. The Hanafi school of thought, which is followed by most Muslims in the world, agree that the feet are not part of the awrah and therefore may be revealed.

Exposure of one's intimate parts, particularly unintended exposure, is typically connected with feelings of shame. Such exposure may be subject to strict social rules, social control and criminal justice; see indecent exposure.

Intentionally touching the intimate parts of another person, even through clothing, is often associated with sexual intent. If this is done without legally valid consent of the person being touched, it may be considered sexual harassment or sexual assault.
